My sewing adventure started when I was about 9 years old. My Mother had one of those antique foot pedal machines. She used to sew everything our household needed using that machine. I have never seen her use any patterns, everything she did was by measurements. She explained to me how to take measurements and make my clothes. I jumped right in and when I got stuck or had a question, she would come and rescue me.
I took over sewing all our household needs when I was in high school and college. I was sewing bed covers, pillow cases, curtains, undergarments. Then I got married and my husband and I started a shoe manufacturing industry. It was during that time that I attended some courses and learnt how to make patterns and was able to sew any article using measurements.
I was running that industry (making 600 pairs of shoes each day!) for 10 years. This really helped me gain lots and lots of experience in industrial sewing. Then we moved to the United States. I now work in a correctional facility. I teach and train the female inmates to sew and produce almost everything for the facility.
I also help make memories by creating unique clothes for soft toys and turn these toys into personalized priceless gifts. I enjoy creating identical dresses for moms & daughters, twins or siblings.
Like my mother taught me, I started teaching my skills to my 8 year old daughter. She was pretty thrilled to see what all she could make. A few of her friends wanted to learn and that is how I started this sewing class, teaching my unique skills to the kids.
It is a challenge for me to find stuff to make that will keep their interest going. I love that challenge too.You will really be amazed at how well these kids have progressed in sewing. The joy and excitement I see in their eyes when they finish a project thrills me every time.
There is no limit to what you can do with a needle and thread on a piece of cloth.
